Major Gary Wallace took a trip to Edinburgh to present a cheque for £2,813.20 to Poppy Scotland at their Edinburgh HQ and Poppy Factory.

Major Wallace’s fund raising group, ‘The Western Desert Recce Group’, raised the donation by selling poppies outside the ASDA supermarket in Dunfermline, over 2 cold days in November.

The Scottish Poppy Appeal raises around £2 million each year and, combined with other year-round fundraising, allows them to provide financial assistance to thousands of ex-Servicemen and women, as well as helping to fund specialist services such as long term care, housing and employment

Filled the container on Saturday 6th April tried to itemise all the items but as we slowly peeled the curtain back from the shelves to reveal a collection of spare parts, tools and a load of donated items from the Orcs and Ogres from 527 Squadron and beyond we realised it would take far longer to do.

Next on the agenda is a work party to make good the Wrecker, new engine installed several weeks back and engine mounts attached and a clutch plate fitted not without it’s problems trying to align the clutch plate. Next work party will address ancillary parts such as fuel, oil and electrics are installed.

It’s been a long wait for the Wrecker to be put back on the road.

We are looking at new activities ranging from home front, NAAFI shop, Personal story lines of individuals who served in the Western Desert etc.
